Numerical Crunch Time Roadmap
Why do I need this?
This overview will give you EVERYTHING you'll ever need on draft day. If you follow each of these steps, you are nearly guaranteed to have a successful draft. So, put on your reading glasses and click the #1 button to get started!
Perform Player Statistical Analysis
Review all of the dirty work that The Commish team has done for you as part of our Generic Comparative Analysis Matrix (GCAM). In a nutshell, its like the value based tools you've seen on other sites...only on steroids!
Here is the process:
- Review last year’s stats for this year's projected starters.
- Take into account last year’s strength of schedule.
- Preview this year’s strength of schedule.
- Look at how players performed on a Per Game Basis.
- Review each player’s Median and Average Fantasy Point Totals.
- Notice which players ended the last year season on a high note.
- Take note of which players struggled at the end of the last year season.
- Look back at the players who celebrated the best individual performances of the year.
- Extrapolate each player’s Per Game Average to see what he is capable of doing over the course of an entire season.
- Compare each player’s last year stats when posed against an equalized set of competition to other players at the same position.
- Extend each player’s last year per game stats against their last year competition onto the competition they face in this year to help make an educated projection for this year.
This process concludes with the presentation of The Commish’s very own Generic Comparative Analysis Matrix (GCAM) for each position. The GCAM will present you with a breakdown of each fantasy player’s stats for the past three years, and factors in their projected stats for this year. A secondary chart provides a scoring breakdown of how the top fantasy performers have done over the course of the past three seasons.
Taken together, these charts not only provide a logical projection for where each player will finish the season, but they also work together to help assess each player’s value in relation to his peers.
Review our Projections for this year
By using these tools, you will to begin to build your draft day strategy.
Customized Cheatsheets
A value based tool known as the Point Differential Reference Guide, and an average value based ranking tool known as the Customized Comparative Analysis Matrix (C-CAM).
Don’t have time to enter the projections yourself? Don’t worry, just use The Commish’s projections. By default you will receive The Commish’s baseline projections to use for each fantasy player – including IDPs! In fact, The Commish, has incorporated additional subjective analysis in conjunction with the above numerical analysis to better gauge the predicted statistics that we feel each fantasy player is capable of producing this year.
Enter YOUR League's Scoring System
You can now create a cheatsheet for EVERY LEAGUE that you play in. In other words, you can have all of your fantasy preparation done in one spot.
This will enable you to continue to compile your own customized cheatsheets, your own Point Differential Reference Guide, and your own Customized Comparative Analysis Matrix (C-CAM) tools.
A. The Commish has designed a straightforward wizard that will ask you a series of interview questions pertaining to your league’s scoring system.
B. You will be given the flexibility of selecting whether or not your league starts no defense, a team defense, or even Individual Defensive Players (IDPs).
C. If your league allows for flexible lineups enter the maximum number of players that may be started at each position.
D. You can instantly update the rules for your league (in general) or for any specific position at the click of a button.
E. You can add a league and enter rules for as many leagues as you are in!
One of the best ways to identify the relative value of players at different positions is to look at the point differential between that player and other players at the SAME position. The tool uses your projections and your leagues rules and calculates a worst starter baseline for comparative analysis amongst potential starting players at a given position.
For example if your league has 12 teams and you can start 1 QB, then the tool uses the 12th QB as the baseline. Likewise, if your league has 12 teams and you may start 2 RBs, then the tool uses the 24th RB as the baseline. This is the premise of value based drafting.
The Commish will present you with the Point Differential for each potential starting fantasy player (including defenses and IDPs) to help you gauge the true fantasy value of a player and WHEN you should consider drafting each player.
Cool, huh?
When performing the numerical analysis in Phase I, we introduced you to The Commish’s very own Generic Comparative Analysis Matrix (GCAM) for each position. Now we’ve taken it a step further to present you with the same tool, customized for your own fantasy league, with your own unique scoring rules.
The C-CAM presents you with a breakdown of each fantasy players' stats for the past three years and factors in your projected stats for this year. A secondary chart provides a scoring breakdown of how the top fantasy performers have done over the course of the past three seasons – and how you’ve projected them to perform in this year.
When combined, these charts not only provide a realistic projection for where each player will finish this year, but they also work together to help assess each player’s value in relation to his peers.
When You're Done....
When you’ve completed the process, you deserve to be congratulated. In your hands you will possess the following:
1. The Commish’s Generic Comparative Analysis Matrix (GCAM) average value based ranking tool for each position.
