JIMMIE WARD Ward finished his sophomore campaign with 57 tackles (48 solo), a sack, and a pick.It was a tale of two seasons for the former first-round draft pick, as he recorded just three tackles through the 49ers' first four games before turning it on in the second half and capping a solid campaign with a 10-tackle performance in week 17. Ward started the year as a reserve defensive back, then became the team's nickel back, and finished the season at his natural position (safety) when Jaquiski Tartt went down to injury. It was starting to look like he was a bust, but his strong play at the end of the year opened eyes. If the rebuilding 49ers decide to cut ties with veteran safety Antoine Bethea this offseason, then Ward could find himself in a starting role next season, giving him a huge boost in IDP value.
